Upcoming event at Diocese

The Montreal Unit of the PWRDF is proud to host the Raging Grannies on Thursday, February 9th at noon. Come and enjoy the singing, humour and passion of these women as they challenge their audience to get involved in social issues.
The Raging Grannies emerged in the late 1980s to bring attention to pressing peace, justice, and environmental issues. Their goal was to create a more humane, just and non-violent world for their grandchildren and for all the world's people. As older women, the Granny stereotype was applied to gain access to places where protest is not generally welcomed --meetings with evasive national leaders, at government hearings and contesting greedy corporations. Dressed in outrageous garb, they sing humorous songs and engage in street theatre antics to gain popular and media attention.

To quote a line from one of their songs, "We're just a gaggle of grannies – we don't sit on our fannies." The grannies sing about war, escalating military budgets, nuclear pollution, medicare, landmines, fair trade, climate change, GMO foods, toxic pollutants and war toys. Most "gigs" include suggestions for follow up action -- what people can do and who they can write to. For info: www.raginggranniesmontreal.ca

Our Foster Children

We bring to all, a little history of our 2 foster children, Ricardo and Kasu, I would like to introduce you to our new foster child, Ricardo Godoy Cardozo.

He lives in Paraguay with his grandmother and has one brother. Ricardo’s family is Evangelical Christian. He receives support from his father, but neither his father nor his mother live with him. His grandmother’s wish is that he could continue his studies. He would like to be a lawyer when he grows up.

He is in Grade 4 and his favourite subject is Spanish (native language). His health is average but he suffers from frequent headaches and gets muscle pains. He likes playing soccer and helps by washing the dishes.

Our other Foster child, our new Foster child since 2010, is Kasu Edao Gutema.

Here is her profile:

Kasu lives in Ethiopia and attends Kindergarten. She knows the English Alphabet and walks 2 km to school.

At the time of the last interview with her in October 2011 she was in good health and introduced herself freely at the time of her interview.
She is happy, social and confident. She likes playing volleyball with her friends. Her favourite food is Bread and her subject in school is English.

The family faced a difficult time this year when Kasu’s brother was sick. One of the family’s achievements was buying an ox.
Kasu contributes to the family by fetching wood and water, washes the dishes, sweeps and feeds the livestock.

Kasu also receives stationery materials and medical cost coverage through the benefits of the Sponsorship program.

Her dream is to be a doctor and has 12 more years in the program.
